Every Spring and Autumn there is an increase in road casualties. Dusk is the key time when many wild animals and birds hunt or search for food. As dusk starts to fall during rush hours the casualties increase. The number of deer call-outs we receive is almost double that of other times of the year. It’s not just deer which run into trouble either, badgers, foxes and birds of prey also have problems.
WRAS is urging motorists to slow down whilst driving at dawn and dusk to help prevent these accidents from occurring. If you do hit an animal please stop and check the animal to see if it is still alive. If the casualty is a road hazard then phone the local police for help and they will contact WRAS for assistance where necessary. Don't forget to use your hazard lights on your car and to park where you are not in danger of being hit yourself. » More advice
