Two Buttons help raise funds for local people and animals!

Jenson Button and a deer named after him called "Button" are helping to raise funds for East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service (WRAS). Button the deer was rescued at just 2 weeks old last October. She had been caught in stock fencing and her rescuers were very concerned at her condition – at one stage it was doubtful that Button would survive the night. Named after Jenson Button who was crossing the finishing line to win the Formula One World Championship at the time she was rescued, Button made an astounding recovery and in April she returned to the paddock with a boyfriend in tow. "Our" little girl has certainly grown up!
To raise funds for WRAS, Scottish artist Keith Hendrie donated a specially commissioned portrait of Button that is now up for auction alongside a signed photo that Jenson Button kindly sent to the charity when he heard her story. These items will be on the WRAS stands at various events throughout the summer, starting with the 999 Emergency Services Show in Eastbourne this weekend. If you cannot attend the events but would like a chance to own both the portrait and the photograph, bids can be sent to us by email.

It is very easy to assume a bird has been abandoned when you find it on the ground, but quite often it is a fledgling learning to fly. When a fledgling takes its first flight it is going to be unsuccessful, it is natural for them to spend 2-3 days on the ground sometimes before they can fly properly. Mum and dad will normally be nearby but they do not always fly down to feed every few minutes as they are trying to encourage the youngster to fly. Both the youngster and the parents are good at hiding themselves.
